The Voice of God is the Stronghold of Faith! Bishop Oyedepo

I have been meditating on ONE word from Bishop Oyedepo entitled, “Unveiling the Stronghold of Faith.” Bishop states that every great story in the WORD preceded with, “God said”. With Abraham, the prophet known for his great faith, the bedrock of that faith was the voice of God! We may be hearing the WORD of God, but not directly from God regarding our situations. (Romans 10:17)

God still speaks today. He said, I AM the Lord your God, I change not!  Why is faith so important to us? Faith is the most potent force in the entire universe. According to Revelations 5:12, it provides all things that are needed for an abundant life and godliness, “Power, riches, wisdom, strength, honour, glory, and blessing”. Faith confers divinity into humanity… Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)  Lastly, every time faith comes alive, virtue flows from God; as when the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment to be made whole. He felt the virtue flow from Him, as her faith was used to heal her infirmity.

How does God speak to us? He speaks directly to us, as he did with Isaac in Genesis 26:1-3; The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, live in the land…”

God also speaks through His word according to Isaiah 34:16, “Look in the scroll of the Lord and read:….”

Lastly, God speaks through His Spirit. John 16:12-15 (15-All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.”In summary, God speaks to us directly, through His word, and by His Spirit. Now that we know how He speaks to us, how do we hear Him?

We must be spiritual in order to hear from the Lord. If a dog barks, he is barking to us, but he is speaking to another dog according to Oyedepo. When a cat meows, he is speaking to another cat, but meowing to a human. The same is for the spirit realm. A carnal man cannot understand the spiritual voice of God. 1 Cor 2:14, “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Next, we must engage in a quality walk in the spirit. Galations 5:25, “If we live in the spirit let us also WALK in the spirit.” Being spiritual is not an act that only occurs on Sunday mornings, or when we engage in prayer, it is a daily walk that is 24/7. We must meditate on His word day and night! Oyedepo stated that the vision for the 50,000 member church he built debt free came while he was DRIVING…NOT PRAYING! So, while we are driving, eating, working, we must be sensitive to the spirit so that we may hear our next steps from God.

Also, we must engage in a lifestyle of praise to enable the voice of the Lord. Isaiah 30:29-31 “And you will sing as on the night you celebrate a holy festival; your hearts will rejoice  as when people playing pipes go up to the mountain of the LORD,  to the Rock of Israel. The LORD will cause people to hear his majestic voice and will make them see his arm coming down with raging anger and consuming fire, with cloudburst, thunderstorm and hail. The voice of the LORD will shatter Assyria; with his rod he will strike them down.” When we are depressed, we cannot hear the voice of the Lord. Depression precedes oppression! He will give us the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness! Praise is key to hearing the voice of the Lord as it produces joy in our hearts.

We must also engage in a LIFESTYLE of prayer and fasting. Matthew 6:6, 16 “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.” He didn’t give these as suggestions, but as commands. When we hunger and thirst for the Lord, He fills us! (Matthew 25)

Lastly, we must engage in the search for the truth for every subject matter in our life through the word of the Lord. We must search for a word from the bible, and select texts from current/recent prophets of the hour on the subject matter in which we seek answers. Hosea 12:10, “I spoke to the prophets, gave them many visions and told parables through them.”

These revelations seem so ‘simple’, but broken down they have already assisted in my growth and hearing from the Lord. For instance, my fasting has increased from once a quarter, to AT LEAST once a week! I have been able to hear God like no other time in my life.   I’ve heard from God regarding threats on my family, and prayed against them, in addition to a prophetic word for complete strangers! A direct word of the Lord has removed the doubt in my life and I strive to press towards a closer relationship every day. All is not perfect, BUT GOD!  Oyedepo states that every mountain in a man’s life, is simply ignornance. “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” Where I am weak, there is His opportunity to shine and show me the keys to the kingdom to master my life through the word of God. I pray that this breakdown of this sermon was helpful and that you are enabled to hear the voice of the Lord! Amen!

One response to “The Voice of God is the Stronghold of Faith! Bishop Oyedepo

  1. What an awesome word. Today, 1/21/2014 I am listening to a message preached/taught by Dr. Bill Winston (Living In the Supernatural …2011) on YouTube and he made mention of The Voice of God is the Stronghold of Faith spoken by Bishop Oyedepo and so I googled it and came here. Your summary/breakdown is awesome and I am glad to hear how much closer you have been drawn to the Lord and He to you. May you continue to walk in the blessings and favor of God. Thank you for the post… almost 3 years later and your post is still effective and relevant
